SUNDAY SCHOOL FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

The Sunday School of the Halifax Congregational Church is the oldest established Sunday School in the United States, celebrating its 275th anniversary this year. For more information see Sunday School History.

WHAT TIME IS SUNDAY SCHOOL?

Sunday School takes place during the Sunday morning worship service, 10:00 - 11:00.

WHAT CURRICULUM DO YOU USE?

We use the David C. Cook Curriculum which is designed to engage the children while teaching at the same time. There is a take-home component which will hopefully bring about family discussions.

IS THERE A COST?

There is no cost for Sunday School. However, if you are able to sponsor a child the donation is $10 per child for the Fall semester. Checks can be made payable to the Halifax Congregational Church.

WHERE DO THE CHILDREN REPORT?

On regular Sundays the children report to the Sanctuary for fifteen minutes of worship including a “Children’s Moment” after which they go with their teachers to their classrooms.

On the first Sunday of the month there is “chapel” and communion for the children. On that Sunday they should report directly to the Fellowship Hall.

WHAT IS THE PROCEDURE FOR DROPPING OFF AND PICKING UP THE CHILDREN?

We require that parents escort their children into the church (or Fellowship Hall) and “handoff” to the designated teacher.

After church parents should pick up their children in Fellowship Hall. Children will not be allowed to leave the building without a parent or designated adult.

If you have further questions, comments or would like to volunteer to be a teacher please contact Gail Todd, Sunday School Superintendent, at 508-697-4017.
