HCC Goes to Tanglewood

As voted by the membership at the Annual Meeting we will be taking a Sunday off from church this summer in Halifax and going to Tanglewood, the summer home of the Boston Symphony Orchestra. We have selected July 20 as the date for our “field trip”.

Date: July 20

Time:  Leave Halifax at 9:00AM arriving in Lenox at approximately noon. That will leave us plenty of time to picnic on the lawn, walk around the grounds and get settled for the 2:30 concert.

Tickets: Lawn tickets are $21 each (plus a $6.25 service charge) and children under 17 are free. However if we get 25 or more to sign up the service charge is waived.

Transportation: Everyone will be responsible for their own transportation but we will have car pooling available.

Cancellation: In the event of inclement weather we will cancel and have church as usual. I won’t actually order the tickets until the week of the concert. Checks will be returned.

Miscellaneous: Everyone is responsible for their own lunch, lawn chairs, blankets, etc.

Program:  The program includes “Rapture” by Christopher Rouse, “Symphonie Espagnole” by Lalo with violinist Joshua Bell, and Beethoven’s 5th Symphony. The orchestra will be conducted by the newly appointed music director of the BSO, Andris Nelsons.

Pre-Concert talk: If there is enough interest I would be willing to do a present pre-concert talk to familiarize concert goers with the music on the program. This would probably be done after church on July 13.
